"My brothers did not ask questions. If they were curious, they did not say so. If I needed to talk, they listened. If I needed money and they had any spare, they sent it, and sent it immediately. Generosity was another trait our respective families did not share. And that of courage in the face of adversity; when the going gets tough, the tough get going. I found out that brothers in arms are brothers in deed. As the quantity of whisky I drank every evening increased, and I began to drink earlier and earlier, my memories of our highland past became increasingly poignant, and on one dark, lonely night I wrote this song."
Over the highlands, from now until then,
Here’s where you’ll find us, and all your old friends,
When you’ve done your day’s work and I’ve finished mine,
There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine.
You take the high road and I’ll take the low,
But wherever it leads you, whatever it shows,
Here in this heart, you’ll always stay
If ever we part, and comes on what may
Beyond the islands, and over the sea,
That’s where my love lies, and I long to be…
When you’ve done your day’s work and I’ve finished mine,
There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine.
There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine
