The First Time © 2018 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva Oh the first time I saw your face Heard your voice, amazing grace By the station, seventh floor Tap of high heels, lock the door Scent your perfume in your long brown hair Floorboards creaking on the stairs And I’m singing… In the mirror by your bed I saw you smile and shake your head I turned around, you’re standing there Then turned again, now laid down bare Emerald eyes and ruby lips Pearly smile and golden hips And I’m singing… Some things you wait all your life for Trying to fly until the final fall In a dream I saw the stream led to your door And there I found the key to it all So the first time I heard you cry Felt you tremble deep inside Was the first time I fell in love A gift from heaven, from high above No one heard a heart beat more Like a bird that’s never flown before

People 03:21
People © 2017 Malcolm Duff & Maristela da Silva Look at all the people Wondering where to go What they might be missing What they’ll never know Look at all the people As they're passing by Ask the same old questions: Can you tell me why? Is it fate or just a date? A mistake I made before? Look at all the people Standing by the shore They're all someone, like me and you Where's that someone, who's lonely too? What will my tomorrow bring? Will it be good or bad? Will it let me smile and sing? Or make me blue and sad? The secret’s very simple But understood by few: Angels past watch over us No matter what we do So look at all the people Only passing through Even old they may find gold And meet someone just like you. Someone, somewhere, just like you.

Rainbow 03:37
Rainbow © 2018 Malcolm Duff & Maristela da Silva Wherever you roam on the ocean No matter how far you may be, I’ll always recall the emotion The first time we set out to sea. The lights shining bright down the river Like stars on a trail out to Skye, Ships on their way By night and by day To be broken by and by For time isn‘t kind, as a boy I would find For those who sail out to see Unless your heading’s an isle Of warm arms, bright eyes and a smile Setting you free… So the day that you sail on the Rainbow, Try to tell where you are Waiting the tide Or over the side One with the sea and the stars Waiting the tide Or over the side One with the sea and the stars

Green Eyes 04:40
Green Eyes © 2018 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva In my dreams I sometimes see your lovely face But when I wake up no one’s lying there It seems as if you’ve been and gone without a trace But lingers on the perfume of your hair Seven days and lonely nights you have been away I never knew that time could take so long But a girl with babe must always learn to earn her pay And in my eyes now, you can do no wrong Yet all the time I wondered why I dreamt of lucky stars Where you go, and who you really are? But that was then; I’ve learnt to bend My time to other rules Now I know all of those that turn us into fools So sail on babe, sail on out to see Sail on honey, sail on to stay free Dream a dream for two, just you and I Sail on out to see with your green eyes Sail on home to me with your green eyes A time will come when there’s no one Who wants what we can sell And all the buyers tell the same old lies But the flame of love burns on forever, If you wish it well, Bright as the emerald of your eyes One full moon now sometime soon I’ll see you once again The only one who helps me stand and fight I’ll hold a girl who’s seen the world like a long-lost friend And let love turn all this darkness into light So sail on babe, sail on out to see Sail on honey, sail on to stay free Dream a dream for two, just you and I Sail on out to see with your green eyes Sail on home to me with your green eyes

Goodbye For Now © 2018 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva Once I found a true love As fine as fine can be With the warmest smile That green eyes ever meant She slaved at night, and slept at light Just fighting to stay free And I a lover, then her friend For she said to me we’d always be Together till the end I knew I really loved her Each time she had to leave But what can you do When those green eyes smile at you, Saying “Life’s a lovely game Of pleasure and of pain…” So it’s goodbye for now, Take care and fare thee well Remember I loved you a spell If and when we’ll meet again Only time will tell So it’s goodbye for now Fare thee well So she went her way and I went mine Searching all the time For what we sometimes feel we must know Looking still for that green hill Somewhere further down the line The heartache still burning low And every day I’ve paid my way To get back to her door A true love lives forever But it’s shorter if you’re poor And that was when She chose to send this letter: “For you I’ll always be at home Call me if you want to feel better Now you’ll never be alone” But it’s goodbye for now, Take care and fare thee well Remember I loved you a spell If and when we’ll meet again Only time will tell

Leaving 04:44
Leaving © 2017 Malcolm Duff & Maristela da Silva If one day I hear you say you’re leaving I'll tell you I don’t want to know Maybe it's better to be even If the flames burned far down low You’ll maybe say you like me still, Say you’ll someday maybe call But time waits on no-one’s will When fate upon us falls I want a love that’s never older Though we change from day to day I want a love that’s never colder Though it sometimes snows in May A love that knows no boundaries A love that knows no walls Only love can ever set me free Only love can save my soul I’ll take a bus down to the coast And a boat out to the isles Try to recall what I loved most: The sunrise in your smile And there between the sea and stars I’ll wish you well on your way And love you still but from afar And hope you'll hear me say: I want a love that’s never older Though we change from day to day I want a love that’s never colder Though it sometimes snows in May A love that knows no boundaries A love that knows no walls Only love can ever set us free Only love can save us all

Light 04:09
Light © 2018 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva When you’re feeling sad and lonely And hurt with all the pain When your nights go by so slowly And the days are all the same You just say the word, And like a hummingbird I’ll fly to your side No you’re not alone Girl I’m coming home I can see the light No matter how or where you are There’s a road leading Right to your star So I’ll never stray too far No more the lonely one Now you’re the only one I can see the light And I’ll tell you that I love you Say the words you want to hear In my arms keep you from harm Nothing more to fear Now I can’t give you everything I’m just a jealous man But with this song I’m trying to sing I give you all I am So when you’re feeling sad and lonely And the night is all you see When all the pain comes back again I’ll try to set you free Cause you’re the best bet I have ever met in my whole life I can’t forget you, I’ll never let you Out of my sight No matter how or where you are There’s a road leading right to your star So I’ll never stray too far To come home and kiss you How I miss you, now I wish you’d Dream with me tonight No more the lonely one Now you’re the only one I can see the light

Hi There 03:45
Hi There © 2021 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva Hi there, how are you? It’s been a long, long time Many moons have come and gone Are you still a love of mine? Hey there, can you hear me? I see that I’ve been blind Work all day my life away Yet held your heart, girl, all this time… But it’s so cold, out here tonight I need to see your light Shining brightly, bright as day Just a smile away Won’t you listen while I tell you all my tale? It won’t take long, wait and see: I loved a girl once, and she loved me… Now you’re only just a smile today Now you’re only ten thousand lonely miles away And it’s so cold, out here tonight I need to see your light Shining brightly, bright as day Just a smile away Wait a minute now, did I hear you right? You’re all alone and coming home tonight? Someone, somewhere heard me pray Now you’re only just a smile away

Whisky Waltz 02:56
Whisky Waltz © 2019 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva Over the highlands, from now until then, Here’s where you’ll find us, and all your old friends, When you’ve done your day’s work and I’ve finished mine, There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine. You take the high road and I’ll take the low, But wherever it leads you, whatever it shows, Here in this heart, you’ll always stay If ever we part, and comes on what may Beyond the islands, and over the sea, That’s where my love lies, and I long to be… When you’ve done your day’s work and I’ve finished mine, There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine. There we’ll drink whisky, water and wine

For You 03:40
For You © 2021 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva Lately I’ve been lonely Lonely just for you You’re the one and only Who’s always seen me through But this freight train we’re all riding May be all we have for time So hold me tight all through this night And put your hand in mine How I miss you, that’s no lie But I’ll kiss you by and by So tell me you’re true That one and one make two And all I do I’ll do for you There’s so much to learn About this lonely world As we ride from mountain high Down to the sea Once upon a time I loved a girl And for a starry while she loved me Now distance has no meaning When we are far away I know some summer evening I’ll see your smile again On this freight train we’re all riding Sometimes seems we’re all alone But just dream with me And you will see That soon we’ll be back home How I love you, that’s no lie Like a dove you’ll learn to fly So tell me it’s true That one and one make two And all I do I’ll do for you

In the Meantime © 2017 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva The last day that I found you You left me with a kiss I knew then how much you’d mean But not how much I would miss You showed me your new apartment The sun shone down on your bed I touched your lips and then your hips So I didn’t hear a word you said: “It’s only for a short while, Can’t you feel that it’s full moon? I’ve got to find another needle Come back and see me soon.” In the meantime, here I stand A heavy heart and empty hands If you need me, you just call I will hear you over all The last day that I felt you In the church before your grave The preacher spoke out loud and clear Said you were one of the brave When I got home I found your note With a photo of your lovely face And the words you wrote “We’ll meet again In some other time and place” Well I’ve been waiting now For a long, long year Searching for a sign of your love But the only sound I ever hear Is the whisper of the wind high above In the meantime, here I stand A heavy heart and empty hands I know I’ll always remember you Only the good things are forever true Only the good things are forever true

Singing The Blues © 2022 Malcolm Duff & Maristela Da Silva How many times has she heard the same lines When they say, as they pay, I love you? How many nights, when they’ve turned out the lights Did she wish that one kiss would be true? But that was before she read the score And now she’s paying her dues Now she’s singing, she’s singing the blues Men come and go, some fast, some slow But all, they leave in the end Only she knows that after the shows She’ll be finding a friend And now when she sings, it’s as if she has wings Love changes your views She plays all the bars but stays with the stars When she’s singing, she’s singing the blues When she’s singing, she’s singing the blues

about

These songs were recorded over the last years of my wife, who died of Alzheimer's disease, a time I have chronicled in a book entitled "The Escorts".

Of the many people I should thank for their help with this album, three in particular stand out: Jean-Paul Leclère, my sound engineer and co-arranger, who made work in the studio a real pleasure at a difficult time.
Secondly, Loïc Louvel and the staff at Quasar Studio, who were all equally kind and helpful.
And thirdly, most important of all, Maristela Da Silva, for her love, encouragement and the music she continues to inspire in my eyes and ears.
