about

I wrote this song very soon after I met Maristela, when I was sad, lost and lonely, and she gave me hope, which turned into love, the greatest gift of all...
Many moons later we were contacted about the song by Kim Garner, the choirmaster for the Memory Choir (United Kingdom), whose singers include people with dementia as well as their families, friends and carers.
The same day, we were contacted by producer Don Floyd in New York, who had also heard the song and liked it.
So we shot a video, Kim recorded the choir, and this is the result.
The video is called "The Escorts", as is the book I wrote about accompanying my wife until she died of Alzheimer's disease, and the album of songs that goes with the book.

People © 2017 Malcolm Duff & Maristela da Silva

Look at all the people
Wondering where to go
What they might be missing
What they’ll never know

Look at all the people
As they're passing by
Ask the same old question:
Can you tell me why?

Is it fate or just a date?
A mistake I made before?
Look at all the people
Standing by the shore

They're all someone, like me and you
Where's that someone, who's lonely too?

What will my tomorrow bring?
Will it be good or bad?
Will it let me smile and sing?
Or make me blue and sad?

The secret’s very simple
But understood by few:
Angels past watch over us
No matter what we do

So look at all the people
Only passing through
Even old they may find gold
And meet someone just like you.

Someone, somewhere, just like you.
